Former Argentine President Alberto Fernández Resigns as President of the Justicialista Party

In a statement, Fernandez said he is leaving the position of party leader permanently, while rejecting the accusations of the former first lady about alleged acts of violence.

According to the local news outlet El Cronista, in the context of a complaint about alleged attacks against his ex-partner Fabiola Yáñez, former Argentine president Alberto Fernández resigned from the Justicialista Party (PJ), the electoral arm of Peronism.

In a statement, Fernandez said he is leaving the position of party leader permanently, while rejecting the accusations of the former first lady about alleged acts of violence.

«I have the duty and need to state that this decision was taken with the sole purpose of not involving the party in which I always militated in facts that are falsely imposed on me», notes the text.

«The facts that are alleged to me are false», the Peronist leader defended himself and declared himself «victim of a media lynching».

The text reads,
Alberto Fernández resigned from the presidency of the Justicialist Party ➮ “I have the duty and the need to state that I am taking this decision with the sole purpose of not involving the party in which I have always been a member in the events that are falsely attributed to me,” he clarified.

«I wish that no shrapnel of the media lynching to which I am being subjected can harm this party in which men and women who have done so much for gender equality and respect for diversity militate», he said.

«I still await the Justice to act as such, stop illegally releasing data through the media and allow me to exercise my legitimate right of defence», he said.

Since Yañez filed the complaint against him, he states in the note that he has been affected by the situation: «With my soul wounded by so much scorn and being victim of a cruel operation that also hurts my children, I greet each companion and companion with my commitment of always».

Fernández had applied for a leave of absence from his position as PJ president last March, which was validated by the opposition political group.

The PJ Congress, led by Gildo Insfrán, governor of Formosa, established a Political Action Commission (CAP) called «For the Argentine model», which will lead the party until the next internal election.

This Wednesday, the prosecutor Ramiro González formally charged Fernández for the beatings he allegedly inflicted on his ex-wife for «serious, doubly aggravated injuries» and «coercive threats».
